Tutorials XR
On this page, we’re publishing a growing number of tailor-made tutorials for you. They offer a practice-oriented introduction to software and tools for using XR technologies in arts & culture.
With these tutorials, we’re building on the EU projects AURORA and HERA (2018–22 and 2023–25). From 2021 to 2025, more than 20 XR tutorials were produced there, ranging from beginner level to advanced development – for example, on developing augmented reality applications, multiplayer features, and avatars. Due to rapid technological progress, some of them are gradually being newly produced within IUNO – and new ones are being added!

Tutorial: How to intall Unity?
In the first tutorial, XR developer Christoph shows you how to navigate the Unity website and get started with the Unity Hub. From there, you can easily select and install the right version of Unity – by the end, you’ll have the Unity Editor up and running on your computer.
Tutorial: First Steps in Unity
In this tutorial, Christoph walks you through the Unity Editor step by step. You’ll start by creating a new project and taking a tour of the most important windows and tabs. From there, Christoph introduces the essential editor functions, shows you how to add and edit objects in a scene, and explains how components bring objects to life. You’ll also learn how to create a material asset and discover the difference between Edit Mode and Play Mode.
Tutorial: Best Practice in Unity
This tutorial covers a practical project structure, how to properly handle different versions of editors and tools, and the build pipeline. It also explains how teams can divide tasks and avoid editing conflicts. Other topics include creating small prototypes and integrating them into the main project, performance considerations related to aesthetics, media, and features, and effective project documentation.
